The painting of "Big Chief" has been added
to Artist Ahmed Cannon's “The Jazz Men” art series called “Shine Bright Like A Diamond” of trombone player “Big Chief” Russell Moore, who was born a member of the @pimatribe & the very first Indigenous / Native American Jazz musician to go mainstream learning several instruments but finally focusing on the Trombone. Neamen Lyles–
Every now and then, we’re given another opportunity to get to know a musical artist at a deeper level – to get a clearer glimpse of the creative force within, and the ways in which it’s manifested in the aural world.
Such is the case today with Neamen Lyles, the young saxophonist whose second album now makes its way into the marketplace of musical ideas. As you come to know this rising smooth jazz artist and hear his latest recorded output, you genuinely, deeply appreciate where he came from and where he’s headed. And, if you’re looking for validation of that appreciation, a glance at his record of accomplishments and associations over the past half dozen years provides it in ample measure. Accomplishments and associations: Recordings and performances with the likes of Jeff Lorber, Rick Braun, Mel Brown, and Mindi Abair. Shared concert billings with Dave Koz, Jay Soto, Greg Karrukas, and others. No slackers in those lists.
The Arsen Nalbandian Trio -
Many music mavens, jazz fans, or otherwise know of American jazz legends like Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk, but a new generation of artists is bringing refreshing new talent to the genre. From the breakout success of artists like Emmet Chen and Robert, Glasoer to up-and-coming talents like pianist Arsen Nalbandian. Jazz pianist and
producer Arsen may not be your typical jazz musician, considering his fusion of styles like Oscar Peterson and Bill Evens, yet his deft merging of styles makes him stand out among his contemporaries.
WHO IS ARSEN?
Arsen Nalbandian is a self-taught jazz pianist, composer, and educator. Over the course of the past 5 years, he has worked with numerous figureheads of the jazz community in Arizona such as Mike Kocour, Andrew Gross, Eric Rasmussen, Ben Hedquist, and others. Through these experiences along with his devotion to studying and transcribing the masters of this music, such as Bill Evans and Oscar Peterson, he has developed a unique musical personality that is steeped in the tradition, while also adding a hint of modern elements.

The 2022 Scottsdale Jazz Festival on Saturday evening, April 30, brought a new kind of excitement to downtown Scottsdale. A variety of Jazz types from Latin, New Orleans, Blues, and other styles filled the outdoor air in the Scottsdale Civic Center. Such a successful outdoor Jazz event is new to Scottsdale. Highlighting the evening was Richard Elliot and Rick Braun, each seasoned showmen with their own individual signature sounds, who performed as RnR. They played off of one another extremely well and had the audience on their feet dancing. The electrifying voice of Nayo Jones of the Nayo Jones Experience from New Orleans provided vocal Jazz for the evening. And local Trumpeter, Jesse McGuire, enthralled the audience with his unique and nationally recognized rendition of the National Anthem.
