It was because of his jazz & publishing background that International Jazz Day Goodwill Ambassador Herbie Hancock endorsed Doc Jones's movement to unite the state around a Bill declaring April 30th a State Holiday as well as the 3 festivals he produces in Mesa, Phoenix, and Scottsdale.

With very short notice and little funding, Doc Jones found three local bands willing to reduce their normal fees and put on his first Mesa International Jazz Day celebration for about 460 people at the Mesa Arts Center thanks to its Director Randall Vogel. As Doc noted at the time, “It was a modest but definite start.”
Looking to expand from this modest beginning, in 2019 Doc and Randy are looking to putting on a good ole New Orleans Dance party featuring Donald Harrison & NOLAZ Band. They have added a Crawfish Boil to the festival.
