AZ Jazz Day Movement: The Official Start of the Campaign to unite the state of Arizona around Jazz Appreciation Month & International Jazz Day 2019
Once upon a time, in a faraway state called Arizona, Labor Day marked the traditional start of the “International Jazz Day Movement” campaign. Selected by The Smithsonian and UNESCO, April has been designated Jazz Appreciation Month and International Jazz Day. The International Jazz Day AZ Foundation, a 501-C3, would begin campaigning the state for the next eight months — a reasonable time for Doc Jones and his Int’l Jazz Day AZ host committee to begin lobbing the Arizona Senate and House members to vote on a Resolution declaring April Jazz Appreciation Month and April 30th International Jazz Day. The result is to produce Jazz Day AZ Festivals in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Surprise, and Mesa Arizona through 2020.
It seems hard to imagine today that Doc Jones started this International Jazz Day AZ Movement 7 years ago in Phoenix. Since then, International Jazz Day AZ Movement has produced Jazz Festivals in Phoenix, Scottsdale and Mesa, Puerto Peńasco, and Alamos Sonora Mexico. With the approval and support of Governor Doug Ducey, 8 Mayors, 2 Arizona Congressmen, plus the full Arizona House and Senate to proclaim April as the Jazz Appreciation month. Doc Jones has been declared the Ambassador of this “Jazz Day AZ Movement” since January 2013, who is, with the foundation, the leader in putting the eyes of the world on the state of Arizona doing the month of April. Many organizations around the state such as the Tucson Jazz festival Organization, Mesa Arts center, Jazz In Arizona, The Nash, Prescott Jazz Society, Scottsdale Performing Arts Center, Chandler, Tempe, to name a few promote awareness for art appreciation of Jazz Music. International Jazz Day AZ Foundation is honored to welcome all organizations and jazz lovers around the state to join this movement in getting the state of Arizona to sign a Resolution declaring April Jazz Appreciation Month and April 30th International Jazz Day.
Next year Doc Jones will be reaching out to some of his musician friends and supporters in New Orleans, to bring the sounds and flavor of Jazz to Scottsdale Arizona. The International Jazz Day AZ Foundation is continuing its movement with the 8th Annual Arizona International Jazz Day celebration on April 6th 2019. The musical experience of New Orleans will be taking over the Scottsdale Preforming Art Center with the help of recording artists, that not only perform jazz, but Cajun Zydeco as well. The Festival will unify the two cities through these beloved musical traditions, experiences and culture.
