DR. JESSE MCGUIRE INTERNATIONALLY KNOWN TRUMPET PLAYER PUTS KJZZ PROGRAM DIRECTOR’S OPINION IN PROPER PERSPECTIVE!

Blaise

“I vow to let go of labels. I will not get angry because a vocalist claims to be a jazz singer and promotes herself as a jazz singer when she is R&B or Broadway, or even folk singer, because she knows the words to a Cole Porter tune. No one cares and I make myself crazy. Enough”. Blaise Lantana

“I would simply like to believe that Blaise Lantana’s career-long penchant for telling certain musicians “who” and “what” they are, is based on a “stylistic” bias, and not something much more sinister. That penchant is also reflected in the playlists at KJZZ. Blaise and I have talked about this, face to face. The music (particularly Jazz) scene in this town breaks my heart, knowing what it could be, having travelled the World, especially with Wynton. It’s not the stylistic presentations, nor is it the diverse genres of music, but it’s the grandiose attitudes of the purists/elitists ( in ALL genres) that has destroyed the spirit of this music scene, that I found and embraced in 1988, when I arrived here. Yet, against all odds, and damning, hurtful criticisms (mostly from sententious trumpet players and so-called music educators), I have prevailed! All I can say to the superciliously inclined is simply this; go out into the world, make your mark, and leave a footprint that the whole world knows is YOURS, THEN come back, and be an encouragement to someone else! In the meantime……… talk is cheap, and cheap pigeonholing…. is all talk!” Jesse
