Herbie Hancock Endorses Doc Jones Movement to get a Int’l Jazz Day Holiday in the State of Arizona

William Doc Jones, Executive Director of International jazz Day AZ Foundation, loves jazz and is a Jazz musician and educator has been using his talents and passion for over 30 years to promote the importance of music education in our schools. It was because of his jazz & publishing background that International Jazz Day Goodwill Ambassador Hebie Hancock endorsed Doc Jones movement to unite the state around a Bill declaring April 30th a State Holiday as well as the 3 festivals he produce in Mesa, Phoenix, and Scottsdale.
With very short notice, and little funding, Doc Jones found three local bands willing to reduce their normal fees and put on his first Mesa International Jazz Day celebration for about 460 people at the Mesa Arts Center thanks to it’s Director Randall Vogel. As Doc noted at the time, “It was a modest but definite start.”
Looking to expand from this modest beginning, in 2019 Doc and Randy is looking to putting on a good ole New Orleans Dance party featuring Donald Harrison & NOLAZ Band. They have added a Crawfish Boil to the festival.
